Know Issues

1. I get some blank rows without a result, even after waiting a few minutes. The request failed and you need to retry it by cutting and pasting the keyword in the cell again. Alternatively select “Reset” and “Run” again to re-scan all keywords. In addition you can also look at using the new RankTank Google Sheet Add-on with automated intelligent retries.

2. I am getting no results or not ranked for all keywords. Make sure you’re online, not blocking any sheet permission and that you’re only using your desired domains TLD e.g. and not http(s):// etc.

WIP: How does local results affect rankings?

The beta version of the local result keyword position rank checker tool allows you to set your region, language and local area (city, airport, municipality etc.). Importantly you can now pull all of the Google SERP local keyword rankings. We use the “uule” parameter or “near” parameter in order to filter by locale.

In conclusion the local search rankings tool is a complex work in progress, hence the beta tag. In short we use the Google Adwords location information to generate local search results based on the “uule” parameter. Most importantly this is the same parameter Google uses in it’s own SERPs. Should it not be possible to calculate the “uule” parameter we fall back to using the more general “near” parameter in order to filter the results.

So this tool is awesome. But the last two days it keeps reloading and telling me that Safari went down. Any advise?

Sean Malseed 20 September 2015 - 9:17 pm

Hey Corey! This tool is in a Google sheet, so it shouldn’t be crashing Safari. What version of Safari are you on? Have you tried this on Chrome or Firefox? Thanks!

Hi, graeat tool and thanks for it! I have an issue….The “IP Used” cell shows an error: “Could not fetch URL:” How can I fix it??
Thanks a lot!

Brett 8 August 2015 - 12:01 am

What’s the highest result number before being listed as “not ranked”?

Sean Malseed 11 August 2015 - 1:42 pm

It should go up to 100/101 before it says not ranked, depending on SERP structure.

Brett 7 August 2015 - 11:40 pm

Maybe a silly question, but will subdomains come up as well as the main domain under “Ranked URL”? Thanks!

Hi Sean,

Such an awesome tool, I use it often and have incorporated the data into a lot of other research methods. Today it seems to be stuck. I’ve got about ~500 keywords I’m playing with and I’ve been copying and deleting, then pasting in my keywords, but it’s stopped working, and I still have about 200 keywords I want to run data on. Everything just saying, “crawling”. It’s from a copy I made from Rank Tank today, so it should be the most up to date version. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Sean Malseed 20 September 2015 - 9:09 pm

Hey PJ, did it start working again for you? It should be fixed.

Matt 5 August 2015 - 4:02 pm

Hey Sean
Nice tool. I am very interested in it. It worked great the first day, but since has given me all sorts of problems… many of which are documented above (i.e. “Need to retry”, “Not Ranked”, etc.). One problem I did not see above is that the “IP Used: field is “#NA, sayin:
“Could not fetch url:

I’ve tried all the tricks you recommend above, but still can’t get it to work… (i.e. copying, pasting, loggin out and in, etc.)…
any ideas?
Thanks, Matt

Sean Malseed 20 September 2015 - 9:09 pm

Hey Matt, it should be fixed. Is it working for you now?

Andy 31 August 2016 - 6:13 pm

Facing same problem here. All of the keywords showing Not Ranked. Can you please help.

netanel 4 August 2015 - 6:33 am

Works great for me

Jeff 30 July 2015 - 8:17 pm

Hello! Love this tool thank you so much for sharing it. I noticed the hidden IP is missing now and I am getting all ‘need to retry” responses. Is this something that can be fixed? Thanks again for sharing, it is awesome.

Alex 30 July 2015 - 12:47 pm

Hey, thanks for this tool! Have been using it for a while now and it’s great.

But recently it has stopped working? It doesn’t seem to get the Google Internal IP, and wont track anything. I tried making new copies of the file but no luck.

Is it down for the time being?

Thanks, Alex.

Dave 29 July 2015 - 3:17 pm

Doesn’t seems to be working any more… Google IP is showing as #N/A and all the results Need to Retry and doesn’t work even when delete and try again.

noman 27 July 2015 - 5:43 pm

Awesome tool. thanks

Maroc Geek 27 July 2015 - 5:40 pm

I hope I’m wrong… But this stopped working and it doesn’t show anymore the Google’s IP! It shows #N/A instead 🙁

Sean Malseed 20 September 2015 - 9:06 pm

Sorry about that – it’s fixed! 🙂

Venkat 24 July 2015 - 7:43 am

Great work! Thank you very much for developing this tool 🙂

Bob 23 July 2015 - 12:32 pm

Great Tool! Thank You! If I wanted to search as example the results for keywords in the local town of myrtle beach how would i set the Google Localization for doing search as if i were in myrtle beach sc?

jim 23 July 2015 - 9:19 am

Hi Sean

Your google keyword ranking tool is absolutely amazing; however the last few days it has not worked and I see the error: could not fetch url:

Is this because you are experiencing problems or have I somehow corrupted my copy?

Thanks and best regards

Jim Leary

Sean Malseed 20 September 2015 - 9:05 pm

Hey Jim, it’s fixed! 🙂
